Ashtabula
is an area rich in culture and geographic beauty. Regardless of
where Ashtabula's residents live, we all share these resources.
Our mission is to rebuild a better community, and give back to the
residents of Ashtabula County at least a little of the inspiration
they give to us. We pledge ourselves to the highest standards of
professionalism.
We're part of Ashtabula County: part of the growth, part of the
development and part of the rebuilding. Not only is AMHA a leader
among all Housing Authorities on a National Level, we are also a
leader of county agencies and governmental bodies. We show how communication,
partnering, intelligent management, administration, and systems
can make a positive and effective difference. Together, we can rebuild
our neighborhoods which have been affected by tough times over the
past years, and make them integral parts of our community.
"Ashtabula" is Native-American word meaning "river
of many fish" hinting at the area's abundant natural resources.
Ten fortune 500 companies have facilities located in Ashtabula County.
Business, government and education have formed public and private
partnerships with tangible results in jobs and housing. In the past
few years, almost $450 million has been invested in new facilities
and infrastructure in Ashtabula County.
Tourists come from far away to enjoy Ashtabula's museums, festivals,
wineries and harbor\marina area. There are a lot of things to do
in this County, as the people who have lived here for years can
tell you!
The way we look at it, we're here to provide the best apartments
that we can and the best service that we can. We feel that we do
this better than any other housing provider in our area, whether
they are subsidized or not. Even though we happen to be subsidized
housing, the way the economy is almost everyone can qualify to apply.
Please enjoy the information provided in this website if you are
curious, or perhaps looking to become a part of the AMHA community.
We can save you money and provide high quality housing for you!
AMHA
Services
Senior Living: Public Housing and
Section 8 Programs
Living on your own is important. Having a community, a Housing Authority,
and neighbors that care about each other and living on your own
can be fun and enjoyable. Giving back to the elderly community that
has contributed so much to Ashtabula is the least the Ashtabula
Metropolitan Housing Authority can do for its residents. Our mission
is to build a better community; to build beyond the bricks and mortar
of a home. We strive to provide comfortable, safe and affordable
housing options for low- and moderate- income people. We pledge
ourselves to the highest standard of professionalism. Our homes
have managed maintenance that exceed any other housing provider
in our area. Each home has a stove and refrigerator; community areas
and programs for the elderly and available for our elderly communities,
including social service help, nearby hospital care, and trips for
the elderly.
We offer living quarters at affordable prices (a percentage of adjusted
monthly income). AMHA pays for all utilities, waste disposal, water
and sewer. Residents are responsible for their own phone bills and
cable television. Most of the units have one bedroom. Seniors residents
within AMHA live in safe, comfortable homes, often with security
cameras that can be monitored on your own television! Residents
enjoy each other's company, and participate in a number of activities
such as breakfast, coffee socials, bingo, seasonal parties as well
as excursions to nearby sporting and cultural events.
The Authority is pleased that it took direct action to insure that
it had elderly-only housing facilities at both Gulfview and Lakeview
Towers, located on Lake Avenue in Ashtabula, Ohio.
If you are interested in learning more about AMHA, give us a call.
Or feel free to drop by and pick up an application. Pre- applications
are available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding
holidays).
Disabled
Living: Specially-Constructed Dwelling Units
and "Mainstreaming"
Facilities
designed with the needs of hearing-, sight- and mobility- impaired
people are available. Bardmoor Estates, a family development with
many homes specifically designed for disabled families, has homes
are equipped with an "SOS Safety Switch" which help safety
personnel quickly locate the site of an emergency in a crisis situation.
Also, although the units are non-furnished, they do have stoves
and refrigerators. Dwelling units are located in Cedarwood Estates
in Conneaut, Ohio, as well as at Southwood Estates in Ashtabula,
Ohio.
In addition, the Authority fought hard to obtain Section 8 program
Certificates for the disabled. This program allows the client to
find a home in any area of the county, or if need be, outside the
county. Once the paperwork has been filled out and approved, the
client rents from a landlord in an area that may be closer to family,
work, supportive services or support groups; what is called "mainstreaming".
This exciting program allows the client the opportunity to live
in an area of their choosing, affording the maximum flexibility
for individuals with disabilities.
Family
Housing Opportunities: Low-Income Housing
Programs
Because of our residents, we at AMHA strive to build beyond the
bricks and mortar of a house. Our mission is to build a better community,
and give back to the residents of Ashtabula at least a little of
the inspiration they give to us. Our goal is to provide comfortable,
safe and affordable housing options for low- and moderate-income
people. We have available both low-income public housing and section
8 housing program opportunities for families who qualify.
As our residents work with us to build our community, they offer
their insight as to how their environment can be improved. As a
result of our collaboration, several programs are up and running,
providing a network of social and economic resource.
All homes have water, sewer and waste disposal services. All houses
are cable-ready and have telephone hook-ups. Phone, gas, electricity
and cable are the responsibility of the residents. Homes have between
one and five bedrooms. The units are non-furnished, and residents
are provided stoves and refrigerators.
